Carla Aldetre

Carla Aldrete Fiscal is a third-year undergraduate student at the University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP) where she is earning a dual Bachelor’s Degree in Sociology and Communication Studies. Her areas of interest include gender studies, race studies, Chicano studies and areas of social justice.

She currently sits on the 2016-2017 Youth Advisory Board of the Girls Empowerment Network (GEN), an Austin, Texas based organization providing academically and emotionally enriching programs for middle school aged girls as they navigate the unique pressures of girlhood. As a member, her duties include providing curriculum feedback and ensuring the relevance of GEN programs as well as frequent contributions and volunteerism.

In the fall of 2015, Carla held a work-study position as a Teaching/Research Assistant for Dr. Angela Frederick in the Sociology and Anthropology Department at UTEP. Her duties included editing and formatting research proposals, and reformatting PDF documents to instantly editable text using ORC software.

Carla has been a “Wish Granter,” for the North Texas chapter of Make-A-Wish since the summer of 2015.
