Yaquelin Morales

My name is Yaquelin Eunise Morales, my friends call me Yaqui for short. I was born in Chinatown, Los Angeles; but grew up in the San Fernando valley,  Pacoima. I identify as Afro-Latinx and I am proud to embrace my Mexican and afro-guatemalen roots. I am a transfer student from Los Angeles Mission College, currently attending California State University, Northridge. Majoring in Sociology, minor in Urban Studies and Planning. My goal is not only to be the first in my family to graduate from a university but also the first to get into a Ph.D program. I want to become a professor because it would allow me to do research but also give me the privilege to teach and continue to stay connected to students. When I was in school I always connected with teachers who looked like me, I want to be able to offer that to future black and brown female students.I consider myself an urban-sociologist, my research is focused on investigating the change in social dynamics brought on by urban development, specifically in low income communities.
