Carolyn Nalewajko

Associate Director of Operations

Carolyn Nalewajko serves as the Associate Director for Operations at the Penn Center for Minority Serving Institutions. She is a native of Philadelphia, where she also graduated from the University of Pennsylvania with a B.A. in Sociology. Her educational interests include first-generation college students and gender inequality studies.

Her interest in sociological issues in today’s world deepened during her freshman year while she was working at Penn’s College Achievement Program, which offers moral and educational support to a diverse group of scholastically talented students, many of whom came from first-generation and/or low-income backgrounds. Coming from a first-generation background herself, Carolyn was able to relate and understand the obstacles those students overcome to get an education.

Carolyn has become very familiar with the life and culture of Penn—not only through her educational background at the university, but also because, during the past eight years, she has worked in several departments throughout the university. She has been at Penn GSE for the past two years, where she helped manage projects such as the School’s space expansions, relocations, and renovations. She enjoys planning, organizing, and working with people who come from different backgrounds, because she enjoys learning from them.
