Johanna Lopez

Johanna Lopez is a native of El Paso, Texas. She is actively pursuing a Bachelor of Arts Double Major in Chicano Studies and in History from The University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP). Johanna graduated from El Paso Community College (EPCC) in May 2015 with an Associates of Art degree in Chicano Studies.

During her time as a student with EPCC she held a position as the work-study for the Texas Associate of Chicanos in Higher Education (TACHE) from 2014-2015. Johanna also wrote and directed the short film, No Habla, which selected and screened at the 2015 Plaza Classic Film Festival in El Paso, Texas.

Johanna began attending the University of Texas at El Paso in August of 2015. She has used her time since to focus her studies on her areas of interest, which include borderland history, Chicano literature, and women’s studies issues. She is an inducted member of the National Society of Leadership and Success honor society and the Tau Sigma honor society. She continues to accomplish various community services events through both honor societies. Johanna also volunteers with the UTEP Rainbow Miner initiative that coordinates events and information sessions for LGBT awareness. Johanna is currently a work-study for Asset Management and Development at UTEP.

In 2016, Johanna was selected to be part of the inaugural cohort for Mellon HSI Pathways to the Professoriate Fellow at The University of Texas at El Paso. She will be graduating from UTEP in December 2017 and will continue on to graduate school to earn a Doctorate in History.
