Davida Loren Haywood

Davida Loren Haywood serves as the Vice President of Student Affairs at Alabama State University. She reports directly to the interim President and offers executive and administrative guidance to one assistant vice president, eight directors and eighty-plus support team members. Further, she works closely and collaboratively with other senior administrators, students, faculty and staff members, alumni and community partners to create holistic curricular and co-curricular experiences that are student-centered, engaging, empowering and transformational. 

Haywood earned a B.S. in Business Administration from Johnson C. Smith University; and, an M.A. in Higher Education and Student Affairs and a Ph.D. in Educational Administration and Higher Education from Ohio State University. Her dissertation, (Re)inventing in the 'dark': African American women and presidential leadership, won the William E. Loadman Most Outstanding Dissertation Award from the School of Educational Policy and Leadership in 2010.

She has nearly nineteen years of administrative experience in the areas of Student Recruitment and Admissions; Student Activities; and, Multicultural Affairs. Prior to her stint at ASU, she was the Senior Executive Director of the Student Life Multicultural Center at OSU. In addition, she has taught undergraduate and graduate courses on leadership and service-learning, diversity and case studies in higher education. Her research interests, papers and presentations often focus on women of color and their participation in higher education; administrative and executive leadership; critical race feminism; racial and gender identity development; and, service-learning. Haywood is the proud mother of two sons: Kenneth, Jr. and Kole.
